How cloud myths can hurt a company

If I were to bring up the concept of cloud computing, there is a pretty good chance you would understand what it is, but be hazy on some of the details. It's ok, you are not alone. It turns out a number of different organizations are still confused by some of the cloud myths that are out there.

To examine some of these myths, HP released a white paper that took a closer look. According to the report, there have been a number of evolutionary transformations of the IT department over the last four decades. Any innovation can become disruptive and ride a wave of hype that causes confusion as it spreads faster than the knowledge of the system.

The problem with hype outpacing reality is that is creates incorrect expectations for the service. Because of this, some companies can feel burned if it doesn't work as expected. When you know everything that the service is capable of, the benefits speak louder.

"At the core of cloud computing—whether you're using a public  cloud service, building your own private cloud, or taking a hybrid cloud approach—is the need to have your specific requirements incorporated into a well-developed cloud strategy," the report reads. "It's not a simple exercise, as your cloud roadmap must address all aspects of your performance, security, control, and availability requirements."

There are plenty of different components of the cloud that can be confusing. With the help of an IT consulting firm that specializes in the cloud, any organization can find out the truth about cloud computing before investing.
